Families in South Kivu, eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, are facing growing pressure from climate change. Unpredictable rainfall, flooding, drought, soil erosion, and water shortages are threatening food production and family livelihoods. Women and children are often among those most affected, particularly when households must travel long distances to find safe water. In response, our Climate Resilience Project aims to support 50 vulnerable farming families, restore degraded land, strengthen climate-smart agriculture, and improve access to clean water through solar-powered systems serving three communities.
The project has a total funding target of $140,000. To date, $0 has been raised, and we are being transparent about this starting point. The project is currently in its preparation and resource-mobilization phase. We are identifying trainers and community learners, consulting with local stakeholders, and preparing the activities and systems needed for implementation. These steps are essential to ensure that the project responds to real community needs and that the resources entrusted to us are used responsibly.
Our collaboration with GlobalGiving gives this initiative an important opportunity to reach a wider international community and mobilize the resources needed to move from preparation to action. We are deeply grateful to GlobalGiving for creating a bridge between local communities in South Kivu and people around the world who want to make a difference. We also thank every current and future donor for believing in community-led solutions. We invite supporters everywhere to join us in protecting families, restoring the land, improving access to water, and building a more resilient future in eastern DR Congo. Every contribution can be part of that journey.
