Climate Resilience for 50 Families

By Ferdinand | COORDINATOR

1. Context and Rationale

In eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, particularly in South Kivu, climate change is severely undermining rural livelihoods. Erratic rainfall, flooding, soil erosion, and water scarcity are disrupting agricultural production and worsening food insecurity.

The most vulnerable farming families lack the tools and resources needed to cope with these challenges. Without urgent support, the situation may lead to worsening hunger, displacement, and long-term environmental damage.

2. Project Objective

This project aims to strengthen the climate resilience of 50 vulnerable farming families by providing practical and sustainable solutions to secure their food supply, water access, and livelihoods.

3. Approach and Key Activities

The project follows an integrated, community-centered approach:

  • Training in climate-smart agriculture
  • Restoration of degraded land
  • Distribution of resilience kits to beneficiary families
  • Installation of solar-powered clean water systems in 3 communities
  • Implementation of local climate adaptation micro-projects

The project is currently in the preparatory phase, including the identification of trainers and beneficiaries. Activities are scheduled to begin in November 2025.

4. Expected Results

  • 50 families equipped to produce food sustainably despite climate challenges
  • Improved access to clean water for 3 communities
  • Reduced incidence of waterborne diseases
  • Restoration of local ecosystems
  • Strengthened economic and social resilience of households

Beyond numbers, this initiative is about restoring hope and enabling communities to build a stable and dignified future.

5. Budget and Funding Status

The total project budget is estimated at USD 140,000.
To date, no funds have yet been raised.

However, through our collaboration with GlobalGiving, we are confident in our ability to reach this goal. This partnership connects the project to a global network of committed donors.

6. Monitoring and Transparency

A strong monitoring and evaluation system will be implemented to ensure:

  • transparent and efficient use of funds
  • active participation of beneficiaries
  • measurable and lasting impact on the ground

Regular updates will be shared with partners and donors.

7. Acknowledgment

We sincerely thank all individuals and organizations who have already shown interest or support for this initiative. Every contribution represents a meaningful step toward change.

8. Call to Action

We warmly invite donors, partners, and supporters to join this effort. This project is not only a response to climate challenges—it is an opportunity to transform lives.

Your support will help:

  • protect vulnerable families
  • restore agricultural land
  • ensure access to clean water
  • build long-term climate resilience

Together, we can ensure that communities in South Kivu are not left behind, but instead empowered to adapt, recover, and thrive.

Together, let’s help families in South Kivu build a resilient future.
