Trafficking: Protecting Daughters of Sex Workers

By Ugbede-Ojo Dominic Kadiri | Project Leader

Dear respected donors,

We sincerely thank you for your support toward the “Protect Daughters of Sex Workers from Trafficking” project. We are set to roll out the first phase, focusing on personal engagement, communication, and interviews, starting in Mararaba in Karu LGA, Nasarawa State. Your continued support will help us reach these vulnerable girls safely and effectively.

Girls born to sex workers face heightened risks of exploitation due to poverty, lack of education, and social stigma. Many are leaving school early and some, even as young as 10 to 12 years old, are already engaged in sex work. Without guidance and protection, they are highly vulnerable to trafficking, abuse, and a cycle of hardship.

In this first phase, we will engage with the girls directly, conduct interviews, and understand why they start sex work at such a young age. This needs assessment will allow us to design interventions that truly respond to their challenges. Later phases of the project will provide safe spaces, meals, school supplies, and vocational training to keep girls off the streets. Trusted female mentors will offer guidance, life skills, and support to help them avoid exploitation.

By understanding the root causes and giving girls safer alternatives, we can reduce the likelihood of early abuse, trafficking, and entry into sex work. This approach also supports mothers in red-light areas who want better opportunities for their daughters and can inspire similar programs in other communities.

Your support ensures that these girls are seen, heard, and given a chance to make safer choices for their future.

With appreciation,
Ugbede-Ojo Dominic Kadiri
