Dear donors,
In this report you will see the pictures of the last group of students that visited and joined our environmental program, "A Day in the Atlantic Rainforest."
Just to remember: The "A Day in the Rainforest" program takes students from schools and citizens from communities of Valença, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on a scenic road and trail, to spend a day in the forest, an unfamiliar environment for almost all. The GlobalGiving project prepares students and visitors before visiting with lectures about the local Environment History and about what they will find during the trip and w also rent a bus to transport visitors.
This time it was a small group of youngsters from Valença city that belong to a catholic religious community and were led by Teacher Iracema Brittes at Fátima neighborhood.
Please see the attached pictures to trek with these students.
You can also see the whole trip in a slideshow in the added link.
Two very important events happened during these months. First it was possible to accomplish some very necessary work on our internal road, in order to protect this mountain road from the heavy summer rains. We built 5 extra drainage facilities to cut the water from the road, as you will see at the picture. The work at this internal road is almost finished. The last step is already contracted and it will be to study and define the best way to drain and how the water will flow down to the valley. These road improvements were and are financed with GlobalGiving funds.
The other important event is that the municipality provided us with 40 gravel trucks to be placed on the access road and on our internal road. This unexpected gift could not be rejected and GlobalGiving again played an important role renting and paying a truck and a wheel loader to spread the gravel on the roads. Please see some photos attached.
The plantations at the Serra da Concordia Wildlife Sanctuary are about to start and this year we are planting around 800 seedlings of palm trees, fruit trees and various hardwoods.
As you know since the last almost two years I have an illness that is impeaching my full operational capacity, but I hope to resolve this with another and definitive surgery that will take place in a couple of days.
So, I will be “out of business” for a few months.
Wish me please good luck and good health. I will be out but the project will be running.
Once again I would like to thank you for your support and donations that allow all this to happen.
Thank you very much.
Roberto Lamego
