Dear donors.
We are pleased to report that we are resuming the work with our environmental program, "A Day in the Atlantic Rainforest."
The "A Day in the Rainforest" program takes students from schools and citizens from communities of Valença, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on a scenic road and trail, to spend a day in the forest, an unfamiliar environment for almost all. The project prepares students and visitors before visiting with lectures about the local Environment History and about what they will find during the trip. We also rent a bus to transport visitors.
We live in a region that was originally covered by 95% forest.Today there are little more than 5%, which has already caused almost irreparable damage to the Ecosystem. Here and in much of Brazil the room temperature is much higher than it used to be and it rains a lot less than it rained a few years ago. And what is more frightening is that the change was very rapid.
The visit of young people and community members from the city allows them to realize the importance of the forests to control the room temperature, for the production of water and the preservation of local biodiversity. They begin to understand the current lack of the forests and the urgent need to reforest this entire region and country. They can also see our proposal of Agroforestry reforesting, where it is possible to associate planting trees, palm trees and fruit trees and make good money doing this, producing good quality wood, and many different agroforestry products such as heart of palm, medicinal products, ornamental plants, and many others.
We believe it is the only way to convince traditional farmers to change their today impossible to maintain farming methods to others where the Environment, water and shade are prioritities.
The group that came this time are students of a course in computer recycling and recovery of electronic waste. Urban people with almost no previous contact with Nature in a wood.
Look at the pictures and see how "A Day in the Atlantic Rainforest" is.
We have another group of approximately 25 members from a Valença neighborhood to visit us tomorrow, September 4th. I will send photos of this other group when I have them.
Once again I would like to thank you for your support and donations that allow all this to happen.
Thank you very much.
