Welcome to our January Report!

Wildlife

  • Wolf monitoring is an on-going activity during this period. The lack of snow and warm temperatures in early January have made it difficult to collect biological samples from the field. Wolves are difficult to study in the absence of snow, because it is harder to track recent wolf pack activity and find fresh faeces, which contain the DNA.
  • Four more bison have been translocated successfully from Germany into the Nucsoara enclosure in Romania. We are working on the documentation and logistics for the transportation of more bison from Slovakia. Foundation Conservation Carpathia (FCC) has re-introduced 36 bison in 5 herds who are roaming freely across the Fagaras mountain range. According to the data transmitted by GPS collars, the bison herds have roamed an area of over 16,000 hectares. You can see the movement of the released bison using this interactive map posted on our Facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/ConservationCarpathia/
  • We are making plans for monitoring the golden eagle population, as well as marmots and capercaillie, the main prey of the eagles.
  • You can watch videos of the wildlife from Carpathia including Wolves, Beavers, and Red Deer on our Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/ConservationCarpathia/

Carpathia Talks - a series of meaningful conversations about nature and its impact on what we do every day with friends and supporters of our project. You can see here our first talks with Marius Opris, Ascendis partner and Sergiu Oprescu, Executive President of Alpha Bank.
