GlobalGiving Report October 2017:
From Tareto Maa, Kilgoris, Kenya.
Greeting everyone from the Tareto Maa here in Kilgoris Kenya.
This is our latest report telling you all how are girls are doing and as always they are working hard and doing well in their studies.
Sport:
The girls of Tareto Maa have once again been taking part in sporting activities with various other schools where they have had some wonderful opportunities to show their skills, even with out all the necessary equipment of shoes and sporting dress. They enjoyed themselves with their healthy pursuits and managed to win some of the games. It is equally amazing that after becoming district champions in volley ball, the girls are also challenging their own teachers with these skills. Also, with singing, they entered a competition where they were challenging the sub-county champions and they were successful, so now they hold the championship in this field. Congratulations to them all for these amazing achievements.
Everyone at Tareto Maa can not thank their sponsors enough for all the help that has been given in raising funds for sporting equipment, even if there are ongoing difficulties of sufficient equipment for all, they are grateful for what has been provided.
Nutrition:
Most importantly, the girls really enjoy all the food that is available at the centre to help them stay nourished and to grow into healthy adults who are able to both study and compete in the above activities. They said that starvation and hunger is no longer something they have to live with. Before they came to the centre scarcity of food was an everyday problem. Now, they are grateful that this feeling of hunger is no longer with them.
Studies:
The children love learning from their teachers. They have a good relationship with them and have fun and laughter together as they learn. This education and opportunities for success in the future could not have been possible without the Tareto Maa organisation. By offering this charity to them (through Gladys and the Maa community), the harmful cultural practices of female genital cutting and poverty can be reduced by working in partnership with other local sponsors and supporters, sharing the common interest of ending harmful practices together.
The girls extend their thanks once again for an education, that would have seemed only a dream, and any hope of this long forgotten if it was not for the people who help make this possible by their financial giving. Going to school is a fundamental human right of every child and it is the cornerstone of what Tareto Maa stands for.
Finally, it just leaves us to say that we offer warm greetings from the girls and everyone who works at the Tareto Maa centre. We are busy preparing for Christmas and wish everyone the very best as this season approaches. Thank you so much.
Gladys Kiranto.
