Protect 50,000 families from exploitation

Suman and his small family – a wife and three children – struggled to survive in a makeshift shelter made of plastic sheets, offering little protection against the elements. Tragedy struck when one of his sons fell victim to a snake bite due to their vulnerable living conditions. Left to provide for his family alone, Suman, who has a disability, managed to earn a small income washing dishes at a local eatery.

Suman's life took another sombre turn when his wife suffered a paralyzing attack, leaving him as the sole provider, burdened with mounting responsibilities. Unaware of available social security benefits and overlooked by officials, Suman's situation remained uncertain.

Through a dedicated outreach effort, our project connected with Suman. The project supported him in applying for support under government legislation. Suman was guided through the application process to build a proper home. Despite having to overcome many obstacles, he received the financial support necessary.

However, progress hit a snag as the instalments abruptly ceased. Unperturbed, the project team tirelessly engaged with local authorities to rectify the issue. Their perseverance paid off, as the funds were reinstated. With renewed assistance, Suman's dream of a secure home is becoming a reality. His house stands on the brink of completion, promising safety, stability, and dignity for him and his wife.
