It takes a village to raise a child – and a community to protect them. It’s crucial we work with entire communities not only to support children now, but for generations to come.
That’s why we have established child activity centres in communities across India. These safe havens act as a one-stop destination for members of the community to raise awareness and get guidance on the issues most important to them.
For children, these centres are places for them to develop life-skills, play, learn and have their voices heard. They are safe places where children can raise concerns about themselves or their friends, and advocate for themselves and the changes they want to see.
These are truly life-changing centres
During a Children’s Group meeting held in one of the child activity centres, a girl revealed how one of her friends had dropped out of school and was showing no interest in returning. The group members discussed how this was the wrong approach and came to the unanimous decision to invite the friend to the group, discussing the importance of education with him and speaking with his parents to urge them to keep him in school.
This is just one example of many, but it shows the sustainable nature of these groups – empowering children to take ownership of the challenges they see around them and work together to build a safer, brighter future for the whole community.
Changing lives across communities
These centres are havens for parents too – somewhere to get information on social welfare schemes, access life-changing benefits for their families and vocational training, bringing new opportunities to provide for their children, now and for years to come.
Thank you for your life-changing support.
