Hamis is now back home and thriving, thanks to you

Hamis
Hamis

We are thrilled to share with you the heartwarming story of Hamis, a young boy whose life, and the lives of his whole family, has been transformed thanks to your support.

Hamis’ parents were divorced, and he lived with his mother in Shinyanga. Occasionally, he was allowed to visit his father, who lived over 100 miles away in Mwanza. On one of these visits, Hamis made the long journey to Mwanza, expecting to be picked up by his father at the Nyegezi bus stand. Unfortunately, his father never arrived. Stranded and alone, Hamis waited at the bus stand with no way to return home.

Thankfully, a kind-hearted stranger noticed Hamis and brought him to the child support desk at Nyegezi bus stand. Our team quickly stepped in, providing him with food and water, and ensuring his safety. Hamis was referred to a trained Fit person for temporary shelter while we worked to trace his family.

Our family workers were able to locate Hamis' mother, Kuki, and were able to successfully reunite them. Hamis returned home and was re-enrolled in school, where we provided him with the necessary school materials to continue his education.

During this process, we learned that Kuki had been struggling financially, which was part of the reason Hamis had gone to his father – to seek help with school supplies and medical care. To support the family’s stability, we provided Kuki with business training and a start-up grant to help her launch a small business selling women’s clothing and curtains.

With her business thriving, Kuki is now able to provide for her family’s needs, including Hamis’ school supplies, and ensure that he attends school regularly. The extra income has allowed her to purchase a plot of land, where they plan to build their own home — a dream that is now within reach.

Hamis is now happily settled at home, and his future is looking bright. This transformation wouldn’t have been possible without your generous support. Thank you for making a real difference in Hamis’ life and for helping families like his find hope and stability.
