Earlier this summer, APROFER's intensive training program helped 70 trainers train a broader group of 500 or more participants on women’s property rights. In some cases women move when their husbands die because they lack the knowledge of the laws that educate them on their rights to the property that they have lived on for years. In other cases, property conflicts lead to violence as a way to resolve ownership. These situations ripple down through families and tear them apart. This summer, the large attendance of inhabitants from the rural district of Kibuye was so impressive that there has been a movement to take the training program from the village level to the district level in order to reach more people.
