In April, the children's library at Madaa Silwan Creative Center in East Jerusalem organized special events for "reading week"!
With your donations, MECA supports Madaa's children's library by paying for a librarian and activities coordinator as well as providing funds for new books and art materials every year.
Madaa Library provides many activities for children: Such as creative writing, Puppet Theater, cultural competitions, reading stories for children and discussing them, in addition to coloring story characters, and showing the children documentaries.
Reading Week opened with a celebration including a storyteller, facepaint, and songs. More than fifty children age 7-14 came on the first day.
Some older children participated by reading stories to each other. There were also writing workshops to help children make up stories from their imagination and read them in front of other children. During an open day at Madaa Park, children read stories outdoors and played educational games. And at the end of the week, a day was devoted to reading popular stories from Palestinian folklore to revive them.
