When community participants come to Vusumnotfo for training they tend to be a bit nervous when greeted at the gate by Rocky, Duma and Zama.
Slowly but surely over the course of a training session people start to relax and by the end enjoy being greeted each morning. This gives participants positive first hand experience with a well cared for animal.
In a rural community setting it is difficult to care for a dog or cat that is not neutered or spayed. They roam, fight, and when females have more than one litter it is impossible to keep up with their nutritional requirements. The result is under fed dogs giving birth to puppies that usually die.
We are now preparing for our Annual Vet Clinic scheduled for September 28, 2024, which is also World Rabies Day. World Rabies Day is aimed at raising awareness and accelerating efforts towards rabies elimination.
A key component in eliminating rabies is to neuter and spay dogs and cats thereby reducing roaming and fighting.
Because of your continued support we are able to plan with confidence - securing permission from the Chiefdom Council and School Committee, ordering the scheduled drugs in advance, raising awareness at community level, and securing the experienced people power to staff the Vet Clinic.
