Promote Healthy Communities in Kenya: CHW Program

Dear Supporters,

As we wrap up 2023, I wanted to share with you our Community Health Promoters (CHP) program progress. We couldn’t do our work without your support! This year our CHPs celebrated a milestone by delivering essential health services with 225,000 home visits to our diverse communities and households. As you can tell, these dedicated CHPs are working hard to promote community well-being and foster a culture of proactive healthcare.

Maternal and child health is extremely important to a healthy community, so these CHPs helped support 7,798 pregnant mothers as well as helped guide 2,000 pregnant mothers with Antenatal Care referrals - promoting safe pregnancies and healthy births. Not only is support needed during pregnancy, but monitoring and support are also needed during infant growth. To ensure early detection of potential health effects due to an unhealthy growth rate, our CHPs targeted 227 infants for additional monitoring using the Mid-Upper Arm Circumference (MUAC) metric.

Not only are these CHPs on the frontline working in the community to promote health, but they are also making substantial strides in the education initiatives of Water and Hygiene, TB/Pneumonia, Nutrition, Maternal Child Health, and more. Our CHPs continue to further their training through additional technical modules and refreshers, with almost 100% trained in Mental Health to support community well-being from a holistic approach.
