Imagine you are on a limited budget, supporting a large family, and 15% of your income is disappearing each year.
That is the situation Fernando, a rancher in Sonora, Mexico, faces every day. His ranch is located in the middle of jaguar country, making his cattle easy targets for predation. In the past year alone, jaguars killed over 15% of his cattle. While he doesn't want to kill the jaguars, he has had to resort to desperate measures to save his cattle and feed his family. This is a HUGE problem given that jaguars are endangered and vital to the ecosystem.
Fortunately, we have found a way to protect both his cattle and the jaguars! By moving his cattle to designated safe areas, he is able to separate the two populations and ensure their survival. However, these areas are far from electricity and water, both vital to the life of his cattle. Because of this he needs a solar pump to provide the cattle with water.
With your help, we were able to provide him with the solar pump, ensuring the safety of his cattle and the wild jaguar population. In the future, we plan to continue developing innovative solutions to the human-jaguar conflict in Sonora, Mexico, ensuring that humans, livestock, jaguars, and all other wildlife survive and thrive.
