Our educational assistance beneficiaries have successfully completed the schoolyear 2023-24!
PLM supported the snacks, transportation expenses, and PE uniform of the 10 year old daughter of MG, a patient with deformities of the eyes, hands and feet due to Hansen's disease. MG feels relieved that her daughter has this support because she can barely make ends meet. MG earns a meager amount from doing laundry or gathering water for her neighbors, a difficult task considering that she has claw hands and an amputated leg! Ontop of this, MG suffers from chronic wounds on her sole and on the back of her knee due to an ill-fitting leg prosthesis. Leprosy destroyed the nerves supplying her eyes, hands, and feet therefore she gets wounds and calluses on the sole of her remaining foot just because of walking without protective shoes or inserts. She has been advised by her dermatologists to reduce walking so that her wounds may heal but she can not comply because she needs to earn.
Our other "scholar" is the daughter of a treated Hansen's patient. She is now promoted to the third year of medical school. PLM provided support for her transportation allowance to and from school. These may be very modest forms of help but a little does go a long way!
We look forward to continuing their educational assistance in the coming schoolyear--with your help:)
