Our visit of June 21st 2024 to the correctional center in Abia State of Nigeria was a hectic one for it coincided with a work free day. We struggled with high traffic flow all through our way to our destination for lots of people and road users utilized the opportunity to travel, shop and visit friends, relations, colleagues and so on hence, most roads were choked with traffic. But we succeeded in getting there.
We signed in our names at the gates of the centre as we visited these youths in their different rooms.
We noticed that most of them are earger to learn one more thing from their various fields we teach them on. How excited we were! In the challenging humanitarian work, nothing gives me joy more than observing the positive response of the target audience. Some of were stirred to ask them some random questions on different fields of their individual learning that we teach them. One particular inmate impressed us all by explaining how to make an executive siting room chairs. When he mentioned that the wood must be stronger than plywood, the gum used are special, the padding of the foam to taste and sewing of the cover was enthralling to us all... leaving us with smiles. This was in addition to a mason who described the art of block moulding. The sports aspect was also encouraging. Those involved in soccer, hand ball, basket ball and volley ball also described the game and how appreciative they are to C4HDI and her projects. We encouraged them to continue learning and that there is light at the end of the tunnel.
C4HDI plans to employ all the trained inmates at their discharge, as we are acquiring parcels of land to establish workshops, fish ponds, farmlands show room and advertisers.
We shared them some ration of edibles and materials for their continued learning.
Thanks.
