Introduction
Cambodia Rural Students Trust (CRST) continues to empower rural students through education, practical training, and community service. As part of Project B – Bicycles for Education, we held a Mobile Bike Mechanic Day at Athipadei Primary School. The mission was simple yet powerful: repair bicycles so students can get to school safely and reliably.
Preparation
One month before the event, our Project B team surveyed the school to assess students’ bicycles and identify spare parts needed. Tools and materials were purchased locally, and 13 student teams were formed — 11 for repairs, one for photography, and one for cooking.
To build confidence, our senior students ran short technical training sessions, ensuring everyone was equipped with practical repair skills before the mission.
Activities on the Day
Early Start: At 4:00 a.m., students prepared breakfast and loaded tools and supplies.
Opening Ceremony: CRST student leader Kimsiev explained the purpose of the mission, followed by a warm welcome from the school principal.
Bike Repairs: Teams worked tirelessly from morning until late afternoon, supported by volunteers. Expert students checked the quality of each repair, while others managed tools, photos, and logistics.
Meals & Breaks: Healthy meals kept energy high, fostering teamwork and joy throughout the day.
Despite the hot weather, every participant worked hard to ensure students had safe bicycles to continue their education.
Impact & Outcomes
140 bicycles repaired — directly benefiting 140 students with safe and reliable transport to school.
Strengthened student teamwork, leadership, and technical skills.
Built deeper connections with REACH NGO and Phnom Penh CRST students.
The school director expressed heartfelt gratitude and presented a certificate of appreciation to CRST.
Reflections
This initiative showed the power of students helping students. Our CRST students not only gained mechanical skills but also experienced the joy of service and leadership. Community collaboration, shared meals, and collective effort turned the day into a celebration of kindness and empowerment.
