Anchor Group
Our young ladies continue to learn how to build a positive support system, the importance of self-care, and how to replace maladaptive coping mechanisms with adaptive coping tools. Although, the group is openly available for any adolescent sexual abuse survivor, we have had a small core group of girls who have been coming consistently since the group began. It is evident that the girls are starting to feel safe at Fair Haven as they continue to be vulnerable about their struggles and willingly reach out to staff and each other for support. Also, since Sexual Assault Awareness Month is coming up in April, we gave the group members an opportunity to use their voice and empowered them to create posters (see below) to support upcoming community events.
Individual Sessions
Fair Haven Center for Women has had an opportunity to provide services to more individuals as a result of the recent hire of our newest staff member. We are honored to work with such courageous young girls who are dedicated to coming to their sessions, despite knowing that they will be discussing/processing painful memories and emotions. Their bravery inspires us to strive to do our best to find the resources that would effectively meet their needs and recovery goals.
Navigate Presentations
Fair Haven is still presenting our Navigate program at our local community middle and high schools. In fact, we recently had the chance to collaborate with our local Township Trustee to speak about consent and provide awareness about sexual assault and rape culture in several middle and high schools. The time spent in these schools encouraged many adolescents to come forward with their sexual abuse/assault disclosures. We were so grateful to be able to support these hurting students and to let them know that we have a safe place for them to talk about their pain and to give them hope for the future.
Needs
Fair Haven would still benefit from more funding to be able to purchase additional space to be able to run our programs and groups more effectively. A lack of transportation also continues to be a hindrance to program enrollment and participation.
As always, we want to thank you, on behalf of the staff and participants of Project Anchor, for your generous support of our program and our mission to help the hurting youth in our community.
