By Maya Rosales | Youth Services Coordinator
Hello! We have been busy as always here at Fair Haven RCC. I wanted to share a recent success story involving one of our teens. Our advocate, Gabby, has been working with her client for approximately a year. Gabby has provided individual support to this client as well as assisting her family through her court case.
As part of the judicial process, there may come a time when a “Victim Impact Statement” needs to be written. Essentially, this is an opportunity for the client to communicate to the judge how they have been affected by the crime. Guiding a client through the process of writing this statement can be challenging, as it often evokes strong feelings and memories that may have been dormant.
Gabby has spent several weeks working closely with this client to help her accurately express her thoughts. This experience highlights the vital role of sexual assault advocates-the trust that the client placed in Gabby allowed her to feel comfortable being vulnerable and sharing her trauma. When a survivor asks us for help with this task, it truly signifies a significant level of trust, especially since sharing such experiences can be very intimidating for many teenagers.
In other news, we are currently working on several new projects and programming initiatives. As our organization grows, change is inevitable, which can be challenging, but our focus remains on enhancing the ways we assist our clients. I am pleased to share that we will be promoting one of our youth services advocates to the position of Youth Services Coordinator.
Additionally, I will be transitioning into a new role as a Mental Health Counselor Associate as we develop our clinical mental health team. We are enthusiastic about building this program and offering victims increased support. Our new Youth Services Coordinator, Gabby, has been an advocate for two years, assisting teens through complex judicial cases and emotional healing. Her experience positions her well for this role, and I look forward to seeing how she will continue to develop the program.
Thank you as always for the continued support as it directly changes the lives of others. Thank you for helping us to help others!
