The parents story:
Our son Micah was born with Spina Bifida, a neural tube defect that develops in the mother's womb during the first trimester. Prior to his birth, medical personnel had informed us of all the struggles Micah would likely encounter over his first months of life. But Micah has proven just how strong he is, especially given that the gravest medical possibilities have not developed.
Micah's date of birth was January 24th, 2013. He had his first neurosurgery when he was two hours old, and was in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Children's Hospital in Orange for six days. It did not take long for us to realize that Micah is the greatest blessing and gift that we have ever received. His smile and joy light up the room and our hearts.
Micah has been a part of ICEC's Early Intervention Program since he was five and a half months old. The therapists have been amazing in so many ways, and have helped nurture both Micah and us. We have seen Micah begin to crawl and sit on his own, which has been very challenging for him due to his lower extremity paralysis. We look to the future with hope that Micah will continue to grow, develop, and touch many more hearts.
