With three conferences booked for February and knowing our information materials get snapped up quickly the New Year was time to call in the volunteers. They kindly helped us put together around 800 information packs in preparation for the conferences.
10th February 2015
We were invited to attend an evening Symposium “A Drop in the Ocean”at the Vale Hotel, Hensol hosted by Innermost Healthcare, a charity dedicated to improving healthcare education in women’s health, pregnancy care and fetal medicine. The event was well attended and parents Jonathan and Carrie Evans who lost their baby Orla to a Group B Strep infection shared their story. We handed out over 200 information packs and Dr Bryan Beattie encouraged every midwife and health care professional in attendance to pass this onto every expectant and new parent in their care.
12th February -14th February
UNISON is one of the UK's largest trade unions, with more than 1.3 million members. UNISON first got involved with the charity's work as a result of a motion carried at its 2014 Womens Conference. UNISON distributes the charity's leaflets in the women's health packs that they send out to raise awareness among women members. The charity was invited to exhibit at their three-day Womens Conference in February 2015. We accepted, and are pleased to report that the conference was a great success and 700 members attended. We met so many women all keen to raise awareness in their local areas. We received a positive response to our information materials with over 150 packs being taken to share with other team members, which just shows how much people want to know about group B Strep.
We are all set and raring to go for the Maternity, Midwifery and Baby, on the 27th February in London.
Thank you for your support of our work in helping us raise the knowledge and awareness of healthcare professionals involved in maternity care to help prevent group B Strep infection in newborn babies. Together we can ensure more new and expectant parents are #GBSaware.
