Achivements

  • Agriculture training for food security: An agricultural training for 120 OVCY was organized in Wakitaka, Jinja District. The session was led by an external Agriculture Officer from Northern Division, covered key topics including seedling preparation, early planting, seed selection, soil fertility, weed and pest management, disease control, and harvesting techniques.
  • Training in agronomic practices: A comprehensive agronomy training session was conducted on food security for 200 OVCY at St. John's Church, Wakitaka. The training covered best agronomic practices to improve productivity, sustainability in smallholder farming, garden preparation, seed selection, spacing, pest and disease control, mulching, fertilizer application, and backyard gardening. Key crops discussed included maize, beans, and collard greens.
  • Financial literacy and business management facilitation: Training sessions in financial literacy and business management for 8 new C1-2025 and old C1-2024 groups in Namulesa and Butiki was conducted. The sessions aimed to enhance financial planning and sustainable business practices among OVCY.
  • Agricultural input distribution: he distribution of beans and maize seeds to was successfully distributed to 340 OVCY from both Year 1 and Year 2 cohorts, as part of ongoing efforts to promote food security within the program.
  • Monitoring of small businesses: Monitoring visits were conducted to 45 small businesses across Wairaka, Wanyange, Mauta, Lwanda, Namulesa, and Butiki to assess their progress, identify challenges, and provide necessary support.
  • Distribution of start-up kits: Ninety Five start-up kits were procured and distributed to 95 OVCY who successfully completed vocational skills training, enabling them to launch their income-generating activities
