Annual Report

By Brenda Nakirya | Managing Director

Introduction:

This project was launched to provide immediate food assistance and long-term solutions to food insecurity among 70 vulnerable families in Uganda. The project aimed to improve nutritional well-being, promote sustainable food sources, and build community resilience.

Objectives

  1. Introduce sustainable food production methods such as home gardening.
  2. Educate beneficiaries on nutrition and food management.
  3. Strengthen community support networks for long-term food security

Implementation

  • Training & Awareness: Beneficiaries attended workshops on proper nutrition, food storage,  meal planning and crop planting.
  • Sustainability Measures: Households were supported with tools and seeds to start small-scale farming.
  • Monitoring & Evaluation: Regular assessments ensured the effectiveness of interventions and identified areas for improvement

Impact

  • 100 households received consistent food support, reducing cases of malnutrition.
  • 50% of beneficiaries adopted home gardening to supplement their food supply.
  • Increased awareness of nutrition and healthier eating habits.
  • Strengthened community collaboration in addressing food insecurity.

Challenge

  • Some households required additional training and follow-up for sustainable food production.

Conclusion

The Economic Empowerment Initiative successfully alleviated food shortages among 100 households and introduced sustainable practices to prevent future hunger. To enhance impact, future efforts should focus on expanding agricultural support, securing more funding, and strengthening partnerships with stakeholders.

Success Story

“Initially, I used to survive with my 5 siblings in not only acquiring food to eat with mother after the death of my father while still young. Access to education for my siblings was extremely hard, working as a squatter and being involved in labor as a minor work was the order of the day. If I didn’t work the previous mother and my siblings will have nothing in their stomach, not only sleep hungry but also wake up angry affecting the whole day-Mother. But one Wednesday earlier 2024, CCUg  came to our community and I got a chance to join in. This did not only act as a turning point in my life but also provided me with better opportunities for my siblings to be better. I got engaged in a group, awarded as chairman of the group position utilizing the opportunity, got business grant and set off for entrepreneurial roles. Thanks to  CCUg, now am able to buy some scholastic materials for my siblings, buy some food and also utilizing the skills I acquird from CCUg to make some extra cash and support my mother. May God Bless CCUg, hopping to sustain this routine for my family!”
