Rabies remains a deadly disease in many parts of Nigeria, yet it can be prevented through vaccination and public education. Many communities lack access to information on rabies prevention and the importance of vaccinating dogs. This project will organize a community awareness and vaccination campaign in Abuja during World Rabies Day. The program will educate residents about rabies prevention and support vaccination for dogs to help protect families from infection.
Rabies is a fatal viral disease that spreads mainly through bites from infected dogs. According to the World Health Organization, tens of thousands of people die from rabies each year worldwide, with many cases occurring in Africa and Asia. Limited vaccination of dogs and lack of public awareness increase the risk of infection in many communities.
The project will organize a community program during World Rabies Day in Abuja. Health educators will share information on how rabies spreads and how people can protect themselves. Veterinary workers will also support vaccination of dogs in the community to reduce the risk of rabies transmission.
