What are the difficulties the Family is facing?

By Fundacion Pro Ninos de la Calle, I.A.P. | Fundacion Pro Ninos de la Calle, I.A.P.

Pro Niños first had contact with the family when A. and P., the parents, approached us with a great concern: Their children, Y., G. and M. spent a lot of time on the street and sometimes took P., their brother (less than 3 years old) with them.

Y., G. and M., who are still young children,11, 9 and 6 years old, left home while their parents went to work and did not come back until the early hours of the morning.  They did not go to school, but kept roaming the streets looking for some way to get money to buy candy or food  or simply playing.

Their home was not a place where they felt protected. School was not a place where they felt happy. One of the main problems for the children, due to the precarious economic situation of their family, is the difficulty in obtaining school supplies and being able to afford the money contributions asked for by the teachers. Many times this situation has excluded them from school activities and kept them away from their classmates.

Y., the oldest brother, is only in fourth grade of primary school. He is a very smart child. However, his constant absences from school and his emotional and economic deprivations have affected his performance at school.

P., the youngest child, is going through a difficult development period. Recently he was diagnosed with acute malnutrition.

The most complex aspect of the family’s situation is that the parents have not  developed the necessary emotional, cognitive and social skills to build a safe home for their children. They do not have all the resources and opportunities they need to develop and have a dignified life.
