This project works to reduce HIV among school girls in Nigeria through school visits, free testing, and reproductive health education. Data shows HIV prevalence among girls aged 15-19 is about 0.3%. We will deliver sessions, testing, and referrals to 150 secondary schools in rural and underserved communities in Nigeria, targeting 50,000 girls between 2026 and 2030 to support safe and informed life choices and better health outcomes for disadvantaged girls.
Many school girls in rural and underserved communities lack adequate information about HIV and access to testing. HIV prevalence among girls aged 15-19 is about 0.3%, higher than boys of the same age. Limited access to health services and low awareness place many girls at risk, affecting their health, schooling, and future if early support and testing are not provided.
This project will be implemented in 150 secondary schools in rural and underserved communities across Nigeria to provide HIV education, free testing, and counseling. Girls will receive reliable, age-appropriate information and support. Those who test positive will be referred to health facilities, with additional financial support for antiretroviral drugs. The project targets 50,000 girls between 2026 and 2030 and aims to improve access to testing and early support.
Girls will gain better knowledge of HIV and improved access to testing and care. More girls will seek help early and take steps to protect their health. This will lead to fewer new infections among school girls. Rural and underserved communities across Nigeria will benefit from healthier young people, improved school attendance, and better health for families and future generations.
