Ebola continues to ravage West Africa, with the three worst hit countries being Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Guinea. Based on figures from the World Health Organization, the outbreak has killed about 7,842 of 20,081 documented cases. In Liberia, over 3,413 people have died from the outbreak. However in recent weeks, public health officials have noted a significant reduction in the number of new Ebola cases.
SEGUE remains poised to continue its implementation of “Powering Homes and Empowering 100 Women in Liberia”. As energy concerns have increased due to the impact of the outbreak on the Liberian economy, SEGUE is reaching out to international donors and local entrepreneurs to build potential public-private partnerships to help expand the program and improve innovation.
Unfortunately, it remains a public health risk to travel and operate in rural Liberia where Ebola has taken its toll. SEGUE staff will continue to monitor developments in Liberia for notification as to when we may resume operations.
As we noted before, SEGUE remains focused and committed to securing necessary funding to purchase and install as many solar units, as possible. Your continued support and sponsorship is much appreciated. SEGUE remains committed to providing access to sustainable lighting and power to Liberia’s rural population.
SEGUE and the many affected Liberians remain thankful for your continued support.
