As you may be aware, Liberia and several of its neighboring countries are currently beset with an Ebola epidemic that is ravaging its rural and municipal populations. With your generous contributions coupled with grant funding, SEGUE was poised to begin implementing “Powering Homes and Empowering 100 Women in Liberia” in July. Unfortunately, we have had to suspend project operations directed in rural areas of the country to allow public health staff and volunteers to effectively battle the Ebola virus that continues to take its toll on the Liberian communities affected.
We have been informed to reevaluate the public health and safety environment impacting project implementation within the next 3 to 6 months. Public Health officials remain vigilant and optimistic that travel to rural areas can resume within that timeline. Our staff will continue to monitor the situation and provide notification as to when operations may resume. In the interim, we will remain focused and committed to securing additional, much needed funding to purchase as many solar units as possible. Your continued support and sponsorship is much appreciated. Unfortunately, due to the onset of the Ebola epidemic we anticipate the economic impact on infrastructure to be quite significant. Our support and assistance with providing access to sustainable lighting and power will be a critical element to social and economic recovery within the country.
SEGUE and the many affected Liberians remain thankful for your continued support.
