The people ieaving in our index rural aggrarian community have enjoyed free portable water supply for over 10 years courtesy of Dako Foundation, GlobalGiving and our generous donors from all over the world.
However, there are some challenges facing the smooth running of this project.
The perenial power problem remains and it is even getting worse as the community now gets power occasionally. Apart from unavailability of power from the National Grid, the prevailing high energy tarrif which has taken power cost above the reach of the poor is now a major challenge.Consequently supply is now available occasionally when money contributed by some individuals is used to purchase energy.
Other challenges facing the smooth running of this project are wear and tear of the various plumbing materials used in this project and erosion which has exposed the materials buried underground.
As a result of the above, most of these villagers have resorted to their old system of getting water from shallow wells, rain water and water from the streams.
Consequently, prevelence of zoonotic diseases and school absentism are on the rise, This is the present reality and it is unfortunate.
The solution to this unfortunate development is funds for maintenance of the facility and a complementary power source; solar energy.
The estimated cost for the two challenges above is N15,000.00 [Fifteen thousands dollars].
We appeal to GlobalGiving and our donors worldwide to donate genareously towards fixing this water supply challenge facing these villages.
Yours sincerely,
Dr Dako Mamudu.
