In recent months, the Popular Literacy Campaign has reached more than 40 children who attend literacy classes to learn how to read and write in community spaces across vulnerable neighborhoods in western Buenos Aires Province.
The context for children in these neighborhoods continues to be extremely challenging. On one hand, many families are still unable to access school vacancies due to overcrowded public schools. On the other hand, the economic crisis forces parents to work longer hours to cover basic needs, leaving many children spending increasing amounts of time alone and without adequate support.
In this reality, literacy spaces have become much more than educational support centers. For many children, they are safe places where they feel protected, accompanied, and cared for. Through the commitment of volunteer literacy educators and community leaders, children receive personalized support in small groups that help strengthen their confidence, learning processes, and emotional well-being.
During these past months, we unfortunately did not receive donations to support the campaign. However, the work continued thanks to the enormous commitment of volunteers who dedicate their time and energy to sustaining these spaces for children and families. Even so, financial support remains essential to purchase school materials, sustain community spaces, and continue reaching children who urgently need educational support.
At the same time, the campaign continues to guarantee something fundamental: the right to education. While structural solutions are still needed, these community spaces ensure that children are not left behind and can continue developing essential reading and writing skills for their future.
We deeply thank everyone who supports this project and makes these spaces of learning, care, and community possible. Your support is incredibly important for us to continue accompanying children in these vulnerable communities.
