Like any other way COVID-19 had affected the rest of the organizational programs, UYSTO too has been affected not only in the Donate sanitary pads to 500 schoolgirls in Uganda but other projects like Vocational and entrepreneurship skills training and Period empowerment network projects.
It was 18th March 2020 when the COVID-19 pandemic locked was manifested which left everything in Uganda paralyzed, schools, ministries, public and private offices closed. It is from this time that our project Donate sanitary pads to 500 schoolgirls in Uganda also stopped and left everything in suspense.
The beneficiaries were based at a school, Namungona Kigobe primary school and we never had a chance to interact with them as there was no a prior warning to us that everything would-be put-on halt by then. It was a hijacking decision by His Excellency the President of Uganda to impose the lockdown and no way we could make the beneficiaries interact with us for COVID-19 lockdown holiday follow-ups. However, several individual calls have been made to us requesting for the support but due to everything being on standstill, has affected our meet up with those individual girls. As if this situation has not been enough, pupils have also got more other issues concerning economic situations experienced as a result of their guardians not having sources of income leading constants domestic violence that do not only affect the parents/guardians but the students too.
Three of the of students we have been supporting have got pregnant during COVID-19 and parents not able to look after them. all this worsened the girls'' situation that might result in other prolonged high levels of vulnerability. This is a challenging moment that we cannot be in a position to even reach out with counselling to them.
Our volunteer coordinator has started riding a bicycle reaching out with menstrual products we buying from funds fundraiser locally, each staff at UYSTO has agreed to offer $6 from their salaries to make sure that girls are provided with sanitary pads, this started with the month of May 2020.
GlobalGiving and our donors have taken long supporting us and if there is a way that our donors you can resume to donating, we request you to right away click the donation links and come for the support to these girls, it's in this situation of COVID-19 that we seriously need your extra support
