Dear Friends of VWAM & Polio Homes Project,
I am writing you today to let you know this project will be deactivated on the Global Giving web site. This is a "Good thing" and not a "Bad thing!"
The goal was to renovate, repair or re-build nine homes of polio victims in Ho Chi Minh City. You will recall these were children and teeangers VWAM volunteers met back in the early 1990's at Sister Jean Marie's Polio Orphange #5 in Saigon. Now adults, and over the past three years, they've gotten back in touch with us and asked for some help to fix their delapidated homes. And they certainly received that help because of your generous support.
All work on nine properties has been completed. A representative from Global Giving personally visited several of the homes, and I personally made three on-site visits to review progress and evaluate new properties for assistance. The goal was to raise $28,725 and the project is at $28,797!
With some new gifts that have come in through Vets With A Mission, VWAM has just over $12,000 for the project but it is not needed. Therefore, I will recommend to the Board of Directors, and it will act upon this recommendation at our Board meeting next week, to designate this $12,000+ for the Children's Heart Surgery Program or as "Unrestricted" to be used for the greatest need.
By the way, the Children's Heart Surgery Program is the newest project posted on Global Giving!
