Polio Project In Final Phase - Ho Chi Minh City

By Charles Ward | Executive Director

Vets With A Mission's executive director and a board member will make an on-site inspection of this project in Ho Chi Minh City on March 27. The contractor is on schedule to complete repairs March 23 or 24.

Homes #5 & #6 are the final renovations of houses occupied by polio victims originally met by VWAM mission team members in the late '80's and early '90's. Strickin with polio as young children, with many of them abandoned by their families, these kids were in Sister Jean Marie's Polio Orphanage #9. Over the years, VWAM teams made several visits to the orphanage to treat the children and complete other projects such as repairing the rehabilitation pool. This was the beginning of a long-term relationship between the kids and VWAM.

In 2016 several of these polio victims, obviously now adults and on their own, reconnected with Vets With A Mission. Their homes were in a terrible state of disrepair, and they asked VWAM once again for help. After visiting the proposed projects in person and appointing a local representative to oversee the effort, the first home was renovated that year with three more in 2017. Now in 2018, the project is coming to fruition with the final two houses. A final report with photographs will be posted sometime after the March 27 visit.

And we are excited that a Global Giving representative will also visit the project in early May.

Finally, thank you, for improving the lives of these polio victims and making this project a tremendous success!
