As we have reported Limitless Child International and Janwaar Castle have partnered to build the children of Janwaar a playground. As of our last report Pappu, the visionary and primary builder of the playground, had finished up many of the elements he and the children had envioned for their lakeside play area.
Over 100 children use the playground with a core group of about 35 stopping by most days, and more on the weekends. Before the playground was built the children had asked for a library. This is a village where books are fairly scarce, but the desire to read, on the part of the children, is growing. A waterproof box was installed under an old archway near the great old tree that sits on the lakeside. Now children have the option of grabbing a book and nestling in the crook of the old tree, or swinging on the swings, learning new skills on the mallakhamb pole, or playing a game of hide and seek. The breeze blowing off the lake in the late afternoons makes this an idealic spot for the children of Janwaar.
While the last update provided details on the actual designing and building of the play ground, this update is a call to action in the form of a request for additional funding. The village of Janwaar has been transformed through the additions of the library and playground. This is a village with very few resources and before the playground and library the children had few healthy options for being active. The addition of these new resources has had secondary benefits of breaking down some of the caste barriers which had kept children separated and caused strife within the viallge.
We are not done with the playground yet, in order to handle the ever increasing numbers of children who are coming to enjoy the it, additional elements need to be added. Pappu and the children have ideas for additional swings, a climbing wall and tire structures. However, without additional funding this will not be a possibility.
Please take this opportunity to make a difference in the lives of children who matter. Play is not something we can take for granted. It took the voices of the children and champions throughout the world to make the right to play a reality. Please be a champion now and help this small village realize the benefits of a playground!
