Thanks to our numerous donors who their donations have help us to continue our Peace trees planting Operations in the Seed of Hope Project Nigeria.

In the last 3 months we have been able to carry out successfully, the maintenance of  all the 56,100 planted in 2013 and those  planted between 2011 and 2012. In trees planting projects in rainforest zones one of the most difficult operations is weeding (maintenance of the planted Trees). As it rains in the rainy seasons, the weeds grown very fast to compete with the planted tree seedlings. One of the greatest challenge in Trees planting in Africa, when trees are planted they are not maintained and soon or latter 70% of the trees die-off. But between the Months of May and July we were able to weed the 56,000 Trees planted in 2013 and the over 60,000 trees planted in the period of 2011 and 2012. Today the trees are growing very well free from weeds and they are looking very healthy. So on the average we were able to weed a total of 110,000 forest trees plantation in an area of 124  acres  of land  or 49.6 hectares of forested land  at a spacing of 7ft by 7ft.

Within this period we were able to pay the workers some of  their money for  work  done.   Over 30 workers representing  over 30 families in the village of Irhue ,in Ehor,  Uhunwonde Local Government Area of Edo State, Nigeria benefited . With the money paid, they  can conveniently  and  happily send their children to school when school resume in August/Septembers in the 2014/2015 academic session. One of the vision of the President and Founder of the One Million trees for peace project Bernadette Strebel apart from helping to bring our forest which has been devastated back in Africa, is to empower head of families in each of this villages so that, they could in turn empower members of their families (wife and children) by sending them to school so that they can have a better and brighter future tomorrow.

We were also able to repair our broken down project vehicle which was donated to this project in 2009 by Bernadette Strebel, the President and founder of the One Million Trees for Peace Project. The repair, though expensive is helping us to convey workers daily and do other routine plantation operations.

Lastly, the women in the villages were able to harvest some food crops, Cassava and Yam in the agro-forestry sections. In the forest plantations, rural workers are encouraged to plant arable crops between planted trees. Some of the arable crops planted last year are being harvested and the rural people are getting food to eat.

We take this opportunity to thank you again for your support. And we will be happy to listen to your feedback so we can all grow togeather.

Warm Regards.
