Lagos is a coastal and urban city of about 20 milllon people in Nigeria facing the effects of climate change due to few trees to soak up carbon dioxide to reduce heatwaves, coastal storms ,flood and trees also shelter tropical birds and enhance biodiversity retention There is urgent need to plant more trees to complement global reforestation efforts for both human and wildlife to thrive and for a balanced nature.
There are less trees in this over- populated city in the state of Lagos which hosts multi-billion dollar infrastures.and economic investmentsThe city is showing great symptoms of climate change of extreme weather changes, rising temperatures, heatwaves, flooding and unpredictable weather patterns which all combined affect both human and wildlife particularly tree-dependent birds numbering over 900 species in Nigeria. Without trees=no cooler streets+birds homes
Tree planting has become a tool for fighting climate change It offers wide environmental and social benefits.Trees sequester carbon ,produce oxygen, cool the surrounding, reduce severity of floods ,by slowing the flow of rainwater onto the ground and into the rivers. Trees will provide coverage for humans and birds which make their nests on trees adding air quality by filtering pollutants &reduce heat, stabilize weather.and prevent biodiversity loss.Plant trees=cooler streets +birds homes.
Climate change impacts are real and manifesting in unusual weather conditions and patterns, flooding, unhealthy cold in july rising temperatures and heat. These impacts will be dampened by trees .Ecosystem Restoration will become achievable on the long run. The city of Lagos with greater number of trees will become liveable home for humans and wildlife habitat &birds, beautify, calm the city and attract tourists and international investors Your donation will fund 10,000 tree planting in Lagos
