Our Living Landscapes Project is all about applying innovative, nature-based solutions to strengthen climate resilience and grow greener cities. Here are some of the key highlights from our work on the ground over the last month. We will share our annual report after Q1 of 2026.
Philippi Village, Cape Town:
Our work at Philippi Village has seen significant investment and physical transformation over the last two months. In October, we finalised the primary earthworks, irrigation, and land finishing—marking a direct R138k investment into the landscape—supported by several volunteer field trips. Simultaneously, we have focused on the Thembi Play Park area, where a Garden Day sponsored by Lubanzi Wines helped complete a biodiversity garden strip. The park's footprint is currently expanding to include a larger jungle gym, an obstacle course, and new interior pathways, all complemented by artistic mural work being done in collaboration with a local artist.
Alexandra Water Warriors, Johannesburg:
At the Alexandra Water Warriors site, our recent Garden Day with Wellness Warehouse saw the successful planting of roughly 90 medicinal and 90 riparian plants. However, the project also faced a powerful reminder of nature's unpredictability when a rapid rise in the Jukskei River occurred. This experience has been invaluable for our planning, highlighting the absolute necessity of designing the space to withstand 100-year flood events to ensure the site remains a permanent and resilient fixture for the community.
Stay tuned for our annual project report coming in April 2026!
