Dear Friends,
Partners In Health (PIH) staff and patients are so grateful for the tremendous support that we received during the 2021 Haiti Earthquake Response. These efforts make a huge difference in the recovery for dozens of family in Haiti since the 7.2 magnitude earthquake struck southwestern Haiti on Saturday, August 14.
As the largest non-governmental healthcare provider in Haiti, PIH is deploying staff and supplies, and providing trauma and emergency care. PIH has worked with the government of Haiti to build the public, internationally accredited, 350-bed teaching hospital after the 2010 earthquake. Zanmi Lasante, PIH’s sister organization in Haiti, remains a firm and reliable partner where close to 99% of staff is Haitian; they continue responding to the needs of their neighbors, friends, colleagues, and families.

Shortly after the earthquake, the beds began to fill up with patients with various traumas, including pelvis and leg fractures, chest and abdominal injuries, and burns. Besides, PIH’s global supply chain and logistics team operated a flight to Haiti on October 3 and carried ultrasound equipment, orthopedic products, and other supplies essential for the earthquake response.
Now nearly four months past the August 14 earthquake, PIH is transitioning from emergency response to recovery across Haiti’s southern peninsula while supporting mobile clinics, helping local partners obtain needed supplies and medications, and preparing for the reintegration of patients directly served at Hôpital Universitaire de Mirebalais. Staff will remain in contact with patients to follow their journey toward healing.

Thank you so much for your continued support of PIH’s work in Haiti as we strive to help Haitians rebuild their lives after the devastating disaster. Your solidarity with our staff and patients allows us to deliver critical care and essential supplies to those affected by the earthquake, while upholding our long-term organizational commitment to strengthening and building a resilient health system for all Haitians.
In Solidarity,
Partners In Health
