Strengthening Community Philanthropy Through Local

By Basanti Lama | Senior Philanthropy Officer

Tewa successfully organized its annual fundraising event Haat Bazaar during Fiscal Year 2025/26 as part of its commitment to strengthening community philanthropy and mobilizing local resources for grassroots women’s organizations across Nepal.

The event featured donated clothing, footwear, bags, household goods, and electronic items, which were collected, sorted, cleaned, priced, and sold at affordable rates. The Haat Bazaar was made possible through generous in-kind support from Daraz Online Shopping, which provided returned items, and Nepal Can Move, which supported the collection and movement of donated goods that could not otherwise be received. From this event we were able to rasied NRs. 30,31,435 (USD 19,814.27).

The Haat Bazaar involved the active participation of volunteers, donors, grantee partners, board and general members, staff, and community members. Volunteers played an important role in preparing donated goods, categorizing items, pricing and tagging products, arranging displays, managing sales counters and maintaining stock.

Beyond fundraising, the Haat Bazaar strengthened relationships among Tewa and its supporters and encouraged a culture of local giving, volunteerism, collective ownership, and shared responsibility for community development.

The funds raised will contribute to Tewa’s grant-making programme for grassroots women’s organizations, enabling women and communities across Nepal to address local challenges through locally led initiatives.
