Dear loyal Peruvian Hearts supporters,
Thank you for standing with the young women of Peruvian Hearts through another season of growth. Every milestone below rests on your generosity and belief in the scholars.
Since our last update, six PH Scholars have earned their bachelor's degrees: Edwarda (Law), Sharon (Accounting), Ingrid (Electronic Engineering), Daniela (Architecture), Eyny (Biology), and Paola (Nursing). Carmen successfully defended her thesis in Systems Engineering and Carlota (Tourism) received her professional title in July. For most of these young women, this degree is the first in her family, and it changes what her sisters, her parents, and her community understand to be possible for women. Education enables a young woman to reach beyond social expectations and advocate for herself and her family.
In addition to recently earning her bachelor's degree, Ingrid led research developing an affordable, AI-powered detection system for the coffee berry borer to support local farmers of Cusco. The work was published in an international peer-reviewed journal and her thesis now puts that system into real field conditions.
In June, PH Scholars Ariana and Marisa traveled to Honduras to represent their university, UNSAAC, at PROCESA, a Latin American conference for chemical engineering students and professionals, entering the ChemE Brew competition with "Qosqo Bitter," an India Pale Ale they developed and produced in Cusco, placing second. Cristhel and Milagros Cristina, who also study chemical engineering, completed an exchange semester at the National University of Engineering (UNI) in Lima, widely regarded as Peru's most demanding engineering institution.
We recently launched two new mentorship programs this period, one pairing PH Scholars with one another, and one pairing current scholars with PH Alumni. Scholars have the opportunity to learn from women farther along in their journey and PH Alumni have the opportunity to give back to the program and organization. PH Psychologist, Miriam, led workshops on self-esteem and self-care for the ladies in the program and continued her workshops with the PH Parents, promoting healthy family dynamics.
Your support is what makes this holistic growth possible. You allow us to walk alongside each young woman with safe housing, nutritional support, academic counseling, psychosocial care, and leadership development, while fostering a community of camaraderie and support.
We are deeply grateful for your loyalty and years of shared commitment to this work.
With gratitude,
The Peruvian Hearts Team
