The GlobalGiving project #64681, titled “Hope for Gaza: Support Our Mission, Save Lives,” has received a total of $65. This project is part of Dunya Doktorlari/Médecins du Monde's ongoing public fundraising campaign for Gaza, which remains active and open for donations. Although the said amount is not sufficient to meet current needs, the campaign continues to gather support. The funds raised are earmarked for providing essential medical care and psychological support to affected populations in Gaza. Once sufficient funds are secured, they will be used to support Dunya Doktorlari/Médecins du Monde’s ongoing humanitarian efforts.
Through other funding sources, essential medical care as well as mental health and psychosocial services (MHPSS) have been provided to the affected populations, which is explained below.
Due to the displacement of humanitarian staff from Rafah following the Israeli offensive, Dunya Doktorlari/Médecins du Monde relocated to the central Gaza Strip, where four Primary Healthcare Clinics (PHCCs) are located. These centers serve a total of 1,000 patients per day providing essential health and MHPSS services to the affected population. It is important to note that Médecins du Monde clinics played a key role in polio vaccination campaign in Gaza.
Between January and February 2024, Dunya Doktorlari/Médecins du Monde delivered twelve pallets of essential medicines to affected populations in collaboration with the Palestine Red Crescent Society and Turkish Red Crescent. Unfortunately, the provision of further medicine had to stop due to the ongoing closure of the Rafah crossing, preventing humanitarian access to northern Gaza, where needs are most acute.
In late April 2024, a Médecins du Monde convoy carrying Primary Health Care (PHC) and Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) supplies was prepared for delivery to the Gaza Strip but was blocked due to the Israeli closure of the Rafah crossing in mid-May. Five months later, these supplies are still unable to reach Gaza due to security and access restrictions at the Kerem Shalom/Karam Abu Salem crossing, exacerbated by the Israeli ground invasion of Rafah.
The obstruction of aid entry has led to severe shortages of essential drugs, medical and lab equipment, including antibiotics, treatments for chronic diseases, hygiene materials, clean water, and food.
Throughout September 2024, medical teams on the ground reported a significant rise in malnutrition cases, alongside the spread of acute respiratory and skin infections, and other communicable diseases. These shortages not only undermine public health but also create a vicious cycle that hampers patients’ recovery, with simple infections deteriorating and taking months to heal. Despite the challenges, Dunya Doktorlari/Médecins du Monde is committed to providing life-saving aid to Gaza.
