Yunusa is an energetic, extroverted, and loving 3 year old boy. He is usually smiling and loves to play with his dad and other kids his age. Yunusa is the 5th and youngest child to his parents, a school teacher and stay at home mom who struggled to find and afford treatment for his Hirsprung disease. The disease causes a portion of the colon to malfunction making Yunusa's belly to swell, become constipated, and have pain.
The boy's dad said "It was really difficult for him. We did everything we could. We went to many hospitals in Gambia and then in Seregal but were sent home lacking in service. We went to traditional doctors but he couldn't get the necessary treatment. It was frustrating and very sad. We spent all our savings for his treatment and finally we set home looking for sponsorship and hoping for a miracle. This is when I heard about Bethany Kids."
The dad heard about Bethany Kids from another organization that covered their travel expenses. Taking the families financial situation into consideration and with your help, Bethany Kids decided to provide the surgery and hospital stay at no cost and were able to secure a place for Yunusa and his dad to stay near the hospital before and after the operation.
When Yunusa arrived to the hospital in the spring of 2019 for his colostomy his belly was swollen, he could barely eat, and he cried often. After surgery he became a happy child who talked and laughed constantly!
His dad said “It is really amazing. Bethany Kids is a compassionate, well standardized and an equipped organization. They gave us all the best services. When I come from Gambia, His mom and my self really didn’t think, that he would get back alive because he was very sick. The whole family was crying a lot when we said good bye. And when I got here I did not know what to expect. But I find everything perfect. The accommodation, the medical service, the people who served us, everything was good. He is now a healthy boy. And this is a big relief for us. And I am so grateful for it. I like to thank God, Bethany Kids, the people who give us service and our sponsors for this great service. Only God can pay for this life saving service.”
