Global Giving Progress Report: July 27, 2011

Each of PeacePlayers International's four program sites has had great first half of 2011:

  • In March, our program in Northern Ireland received a gracious boost thanks to Prince William and Catherine Middleton.  PPI – NI is thankful to have been one of twenty-six projects selected by the royal newlyweds to their charitable gift fund. In fact, US President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama donated six MacBook laptops to PPI – NI in honor of the royal couple’s wedding
  • In June, PPI – Cyprus hosted Meeghan Zahorsky, a Georgetown University graduate student who is doing her doctoral work on sports and peacebuilding. She is co-authoring a book on the topic and is making PPI a major focus of it, having already visited PPI sites in Northern Ireland and Israel for research. We are grateful to have such a knowledgeable and enthusiastic person spend some time with us and we wish Meeghan luck as she concludes her project.
  • On July 12, about 60 Palestinian and Israeli PeacePlayers left their home courts to meet up at an amusement park. The trip to Superland, located in the Israeli coastal town of Rishon Letzion, was one of the main events of the Building Bridges Summer Camp. Kids at the event hailed from East and West Jerusalem, Beit Shemesh and Mateh Yehudah. Despite the 86°F (30°C) weather under the powerful Middle Eastern sun, spirits were soaring, and so were the roller coasters.
  • In May, PPI – South Africa held its 18th City-Wide Tournament. Players from all seven programming areas were split up to form new teams and they competed in nearly 30 games. The day culminated in Leadership Development Programme participants taking on past and current PPI-SA staff.

Thank you for your ongoing support of PeacePlayers International. Stay tuned for more updates!
