Fight childhood disease with safe drinking water

Greetings friends and supporters.  When I last reported to you about the cholera outbreak in Haiti last November I said that there had already been over 3000 reported cases. By mid February that number jumped to over 30,000 cases with albout 90% hospitalized with severe diarrhea and dehydration, especially in young children. Much of the disease is seen in urban areas, primarily Port Au Prince, but many rural communities lack access to medicines and rehydration materials.
Our volunteer teams continue to reach these communities to provide preventative supplies such as water purification devices and hygiene materials. Due to political unrest  resupplying them with more materials has been a problem but recently a new shipment has reached our headquarters in Cap Haitien and can be distributed.
Your continued support of these young volunteers as they continue their dangerous work has been critical and is very much appreciated.
Agua Pura works in many countries in Latin America and last Fall we were asked by our Honduran partner organization to help over 100 rural families who’s homes had been destroyed by flooding. They lacked access to safe drinking water and sanitation.  Because of our background in water testing and water purification technologies we were able to provide testing materials and we also purchased water filters for the families.  Our partners were quickly able to distribute these safe water filters to the families to prevent disease.
Agua Pura has been able to meet these different needs because of you, our donors. Our programs will continue and I will continue to share our challenges and our successes with you.
