The past few months have been packed with parkour-centric, community fun! Starting in June, we opened up several new outdoor classes for summer members, and introduced lots of people to outdoor training at Gasworks Park! We also shifted our Saturday outdoor basics parkour class (led by Coach Ox and held in parks all around Seattle) to being entirely free for participants. The Saturday program will run all year ‘round, and we’re considering opening another outdoor class on a weekday evening for the intrepid students who will continue training outside during Seattle’s rainy season.
In late July, PKV ran the 2015 PKV Classic and hosted the 2015 North American Women’s Parkour Jam on two consecutive weekends. Both events brought participants from all over North America and beyond for a great time exploring Seattle’s best parkour training spots, training together, and building new friendships. PKV was able to run the PKV Hostel, and provided a place for our visitors to sleep free of charge :)
PKV also did lots of outreach projects this summer, including six sessions for Aspergers and Autism Spectrum Kids at Aspiring Youth, which we held outdoors at Ravenna Park, seven sessions at PKV for kids whose parents are in cancer treatment at the Fred Hutch Cancer Research Center, and one outdoor workshop at Jefferson Park for at-risk youth in the SOS Outreach program.
We’re mapping out our Fall schedule, which already includes some after-school outreach at BF Day School in Fremont, plus our regular compliment of classes at the gym. Stay tuned for new obstacles, a new apprentice coach program, and more this Fall!
As always, we have to let you know that we couldn’t do all that we do without the support of our community. Thank you so much for your continued support, whether it’s via donations, your time, or your stuff (we’ve had a couple of new mats donated recently!).
