Kayan takes a holisitic approach in the field of ending violence against women, which includes ending violence that falls into the domains of political violence, sexual violence, legal violence, social violence, physical violence, emotional violence, and economical violence. Addressing all of these fields is the only true way to ensure women's security, and to allow for the advancement of their status. In this period, a special feature of our work entailed supporting women's groups in 4 villages in holding gender-mainstreaming workshops for their local councils, and public events, such as panels, with local council members from their villages. In these grassroots women led events, women took the lead in putting their needs and demands on the agenda of local politicians, and held the politicians accountable infront of their communities via the public events.
These events challenged women's ongoing exclusion from the political sphere, and the resulting violence that this leads to, as without an access point to political agendas, women's needs are completely marginalized. Women also used this opportunity to speak to their local council members about the violence women are facing in their community, and the need for political decision makers to be both vocal role models against violence, and to use the local council resources to address violence.
