We create valuable opportunities for women and girls to uncover their purpose, build communities, develop leadership skills, and access mental health resources in regions where such opportunities are limited. Girls between the ages of 15-24 participate in an afterschool programs, summer camps, and community engagement events that uses sport and outdoor activities to build self-esteem, leadership skills, and a supportive community of like-minded women.
Pakistan, the fifth most populous country, is ranked as one of the least gender equitable countries worldwide, ranking 142 out of 146 according to the Global Gender Gap Index 2023. Pakistani women are underrepresented in leadership roles and lack access to economic, social, health and educational opportunities. These disparities affect the health, economic, and educational opportunities for women which negatively affects their families, their communities, and the overall economic well-being.
Ascend teaches leadership through sport and outdoor learning opportunities for girls. We create a safe and supportive environment for girls to build self-esteem and confidence through outdoor adventure, health and service, taking responsibility for themselves and stretching beyond perceived limits. Trained by female instructors, participants gain confidence, skills, and a new way to see themselves.
Over 3,000 girls and young women annually will become ambassadors of strength, self-determination, and positive health for their communities; sharing knowledge with peers and family; and bringing opportunities to others. Outdoor education for local women provides early access to new avenues of learning and employment and opens doors for women in outdoor adventure and other economic pursuits. When women lead, societies see gains in family health, personal and societal wealth, and enduring peace.
