This project serves improving the quality of life of 500 terminally ill children and adults, who are cared for by the professionals of Hungarian Hospice Foundation per year. In order to save the cancer patients' human dignity pain and other symptoms must be effectively controlled until the very end. We prefer caring for the patients in their own homes, especially in the case of pediatric patients. Our inpatient unit in Budapest is also available when hospitalization is needed.
Terminally ill hospice patients (children and adults) severely need complex pain and symptom control until the very last moments of their life. The committed work of the multidisciplinary team of high qualified medical professional is essential; medication with modern analgesics is also of absolute necessity. The resources that Hungarian Hospice Foundation receives from the government cover only less than 50% of the total expenses, thus the quality of care is highly dependent on donations.
The donations helps us to provide loving, tender, and professional care: individually tailored symptom control for suffering ill babies and also for tormented old cancer patients. The relief they get is also an unburdening for the caring family members, whose utmost wish is to save their loved ones from the physical and emotional pain of dying. Medical doctors, nurses, psychologists help the families to stay together, eased of unnecessary suffering.
Hungarian Hospice Foundation care for cca 500 dying people per year, they, and all of their family members are affected by the quality of their end of life and of the way they die. Quality of death of a human being is a crucial issue of the future mental health of the bereaved relatives, and contributes to the hope of a whole community that we are not powerless at helping dying patients of any age. This hope helps to dissolve the taboo of death and to get more donations in the future.
