My Skill became My Family Survival

I am Kiran of 23 years old with three class level education. I have been divorced by the husband after 5 years of marriage as I could not give birth to boy baby as I have given birth to two girl babies. I never thought to face such situation in my life and I was not prepared for such situation, this situation happened when my daughters were only of age 3 years and 15 days. Indeed, sudden divorce brought lot of challenges for me, my babies as well as my poor parents. In order to feed my children, I started working in houses to cook, clean and wash dishes and clothes, against these services I use to get not more than seven thousand per month. This amount was too less to meet my travel expenses from home to these houses as well as feed my children along their needs as kids. But there was no other option and it was good as someone said rightly that ‘something is better than nothing’. I did this for at least 5 years before learning dress making training from ARTS Foundation with the generous support of individual philanthropists under the umbrella of GlobalGiving.

I heard about dress making training by ARTS Foundation through Lady Health Workers who attended a certification ceremony at ARTS Vocational Training Center. So, I decided to get admission as it was free of cost for orphan as well as widow and divorced women. I visited the center and submitted my application, after due diligence, I have been informed to joined 6 months evening class at ARTS Vocational Training Center.

The dress making course was included about knowledge sharing with regard to color combinations, fashion designs, marketing and dealing with customers. The course has focus on building confidence among girls and women to augment their interpersonal and negotiation skills to deal with customers smoothly to attract them to get more business.

ARTS Vocational Training Center is providing whole set of basic materials as needed to trainees for the course, like fabric, threads, buttons etc as well as pick and drop facility because the orphan girls can’t bear travel and transport expenses.
